Minister lists devptprojects at R-Day function in Udupi

District In-Charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said that the district will get six public schools and Rs 10 lakh will be given to each school for basic facilities.

Speaking after unfurling the national flag at the 69th Republic Day programme here on Friday, he said that the state government is setting up 176 Karnataka Public Schools in the state in three phases. In this, six will be started in the district, he added.

Elaborating on various development programmes taken up in the district, the minister stated that Rs 212.44 crore is spent on developing 465.20 km-long district roads. An amount of Rs 31.68 crore is spent on constructing the 11 bridges. Under the Central road scheme, Rs 9 crore is spent on the bridge connecting Kuradi to Neelavara, while another Rs 10 crore will be spent on the bridge at Ammunje-Perampalli, he explained.

The minister said that Rs 99.10 crore has been released to develop the district's main roads which extends to 137.57 km.

Madhwaraj said that the environment clearance has been received for the port construction at Hejamady. The port will come up at a cost of Rs 122.59 crore.

Emphasizing on the various development programmes introduced in Udupi CMC limits, Madhawaraj said that Rs 10 crore has been released under Special SFC funds to the civic body and Rs 370 crore has been allotted to construct full-fledged underground drainage and water supply system.

Tender has been invited for the project of delivering the Varahi river water to Baje reservoir in Swarna River through pipelines. A sum of Rs 4 crore is allocated for Kundapur TMC to take up basic infrastructure programme, he noted.

Maintaining that clean and affordable food is being provided through Indira Canteens, the minister said that the canteens will be coming up in all the three taluks of the district and the tender process is under way.

He said that 1.70 lakh families in the district are the beneficiaries under Anna Bhagya Yojane and 87,138 ration cards have been delivered recently.

He said 10,576 beneficiaries have been identified under Anila Bhagya Yojane in the district.

The minister said several programmes have been chalked out and implemented to supporth youths.

The Congress-led state government has started 'Yuva Chaitanya' programme in which 5,000 youth associations will get sports kit worth Rs 40,000. Of the total 5,000 youths, 600 are from Udupi district, he added.

He said recently the chief minister has launched development works worth Rs 581 crore, 445 crore and 490 crore respectively in Udupi, Kaup and Byndoor assembly constituencies.
