A first-division clerk in the Department of Public Instruction has been suspended and faces criminal action after his superior went to the police, saying he created a fake inquiry report by forging her signature to absolve him of large-scale misappropriation of funds.
Katyayini Alva, Joint Director (Administration) in the department, filed a case of cheating and forgery against Suresh T R at the Halasuru Gate police station after bringing the matter to the notice of her higher-ups.
Suresh was caught misappropriating funds while being posted to the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) on a deputation. RDPR officials took up the matter with Suresh's parent department. Accordingly, Alva ordered an inquiry against him. But even as the inquiry was underway, Suresh created a fake report by forging Alva's signature, absolving him of the charges. He later forwarded the report to the government which validated it.
The matter came to light when Alva was informed that based on her inquiry report, charges against Suresh had been dropped. Puzzled, she checked with the department and found out about the fake report.
