Kasganj violence: UP govt submits report

A day after the Centre sought a report, the Uttar Pradesh(UP) government on Wednesday submitted a detailed account of the violence that erupted in Kasganj and the steps taken to contain it.

According to officials, the UP government gave a detailed report on how the sequence of events that led to the communal violence in Kasganj as well as the action taken against the culprits.

It also provided details about the arrests made by UP Police as well as circumstances leading to the death of Chandan Gupta.

The state government said it is probing whether the violence was pre-planned.

One person was killed and some others were injured in communal clashes during Republic Day celebrations last Friday.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had asked the state government to submit a comprehensive report about the violence and the steps taken to restore law and order in Kasganj and other areas.

The incident started in Kasganj after a motorcycle rally taken out by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists insisted on removing the chairs arranged by a group of people in Kasganj.

The violence started after stone-pelting by a mob on the motorcycle rally.
