Sonia's alliance call doesn't apply to Karnataka polls: Siddaramaiah

Last Updated 09 February 2018, 12:33 IST

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that Congress Parliamentary Party Chief Sonia Gandhi's call for alliances with like-minded parties to beat the BJP applies to the national level, but not in Karnataka.

He said that the recently announced BSP alliance with JD(S) would have no impact on the Congress in the upcoming Karnataka elections.

He spoke to reporters at the helipad near Bellodi, Harihar taluk, where he was set to attend the Kanaka Guru Peetha silver jubilee function on Friday.

Congress has conducted a survey to gather opinions and determine the list of candidates for the upcoming election, said Siddaramaiah. He said that the party had dispatched observers to gather information.

"I have taken cognizance of Bisi-Oota workers' protests. The concerned minister will visit them and find out their demands," he assured.

The caste census will be made public once the commission tables its report, the CM stated in reply to a question.

"The government has no intention of taking over any mutt or temple," Siddaramaiah reiterated.

"We have merely published the same order passed in 2007 by the coalition government in the state then. This is not our proposal. The media has misunderstood this," the CM remarked.
