Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "silence" on the multi-crore banking fraud and asked him to "stop behaving as if you are guilty".

He also accused Finance Minister Arun Jaitley of "hiding". The Congress also hit out at the Modi government for fielding the social justice minister, HRD minister and defence minister to counter Opposition's onslaught on "India's biggest bank loot scam".

"PM Modi tells kids how to pass exams for 2 hrs, but won't speak for 2 mins on the 22,000 cr scam. Mr Jaitley is in hiding. Stop behaving as if you're guilty! Speak up," Rahul said on Twitter.

He was referring to the prime minister's address to school students on Friday on how to deal with exam tension.

Keeping up the heat on the government, the Congress said there were now reports that another businessman Vikram Kothari of Rotomac Pens, who owed Rs 800 crore to banks, was untraceable.

"Bank frauds are tumbling out of the closet faster than you can say Jack Robinson," Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters here.

Tewari claimed that according to RBI data, banking frauds totalling Rs 61,260 crore have taken place in the last five years.

"The Congress party demands a white paper on the Indian banking system from the government during the Budget Session of Parliament," the former union minister said.

Tewari also wanted the government to direct all banks to publish the names of all fraudsters and details of non-performing assets of banks.
