Now analyse the amount of solar energy your roof can generate

The Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (C-Step) will soon provide a tool to help public assess the potential of their rooftop to produce solar energy.

The aerial mapping of Bengaluru to analyse the potential of solar photovoltaics on rooftops, which started last month, ended on March 6. The project involved using the latest technology to develop high-resolution 3D maps of the city, including building heights and neighbouring obstacles such as trees, other buildings, poles and billboards.

Each rooftop will be digitised with the data solar energy potential based on shadow-free area will be calculated. Associated economics will be estimated by linking the Bescom consumer number linked with a specific rooftop. The tool will freely accessible to citizens in the next seven months.
