The J C Nagar police have arrested a 23-year-old driver of a travel agency in the city who stole valuables from passengers to buy gifts for his fiance.
The police have also recovered 310 grams of gold ornaments from the driver.
The accused, Shahim Peerzade, is a resident of Bhatkal. He recently got engaged and had promised his fiance a scooter and gold ornaments.
Peerzade decided to steal the valuables from passengers who are careless, the police said.
He has committed crimes in moving vehicles in RMC Yard and Kodigehalli and the police have registered cases.
