Last Updated 04 June 2018, 14:56 IST

Normal life was affected across Tamil Nadu on Thursday with establishments, including restaurants and shops, downing their shutters in support of the day-long shutdown call Given by the principal Opposition DMK and its allies. However, skeletal bus services were run in Chennai, but the situation in districts was not the same since incidents of stone pelting on the buses were reported from several places.

In Chennai, office-goers were put to inconvenience since only a few buses were put into service and people rushed to vegetable markets and grocery shops in the neighbourhood to stock supplies. Shop owners said they would shut their shops after 9 am. DMK workers held road rooms across the state since 7 am and even attempted to block trains at several railway stations.

Security has been beefed up across Tamil Nadu to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during the day-long bandh. The bandh call was given by DMK to protest the Centre's delay in the formation of Cauvery Management Board despite a clear verdict by the Supreme Court.
