7 killed in Sadr City bombing: Iraqi officials

Last Updated 13 May 2010, 03:42 IST

Police and hospital officials say the blast on Wednesday evening took place near a popular cafe where young people were gathered. The casualty information was given by a Sadr City police officer and an official at the Imam Ali hospital where the wounded were taken.

Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorised to disclose information to the media. Sadr City is the eastern Baghdad stronghold of anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and the scene of one of Iraq's most deadly bombings this year, when insurgents in April targeted worshippers gathered for Friday prayers.
