Led by a sparkling four-under 68 by Pavarisa Yoktuan, the Thai girls made sure the title stayed with them for another year, sneaking home by a stroke ahead of a fighting Chinese taipei (432) on another energy-sapping day at the Eagleton Golf Resort. The Indian trio of Gurbani Singh, Shreya Ghei, Vani Kapoor finished third at 442.

As if to make to make statement of his own, Pariwat Pinsawat found form at the right time in firing a superb four-under 68 as the Thai boys cashed in on an indifferent performance from India, extending their lead to a massive 13 strokes after round three. Thailand thus sealed their dominance in the Janya Cup, totalling 636. India on 649 were in second place with one round to go.

India, yet to lay their hands on the trophy, suffered after main weapons S Chikkarangappa and Ashbeer Saini failed to fire. Chikka, who looked sublime until Friday, struggled with his putting in returning a two-under 70 while Saini’s wayward driving resulted in an even-par 72.

Able to find just four fairways, Saini relied heavily on his putting to sink five birdies but the Kapurthala lad damaged his card with as many bogeys. Things looked promising for Chikka when he sunk identical left-right long curling birdies on the third and fourth, only to find his first bogey of the tournament on the 12th hole. Nevertheless, two more birdies and a bogey lifted the Bangalorean to the top in the individual championship.
