Around 650 participants took part in the auditions and this has been the highest so far.

Some participants had come with their guitar, some with the keyboard and other musical instruments, in which they were good at. With their numbers stuck to their clothes, they were all ready for the battle of songs. Many of them had come from various rural areas of Karnataka, most of them were well-trained singers and knew almost everything about  music. Pure, good and fresh mouldable voice was what the judges were looking for.

The audition comprised two rounds. Around 20 of the contestants were selected and those who were selected will be sent to Mumbai for rigorous training, which will last for about two months. After this, they will have to sing in front of music directors like Vishal-Shekhar and Sajid-Wajid as well as singer Daler Mehndi.

Ashish Golwalkar, the judge, said, “The talent is exceptionally great, most of the participants have the right kind of sur which we are looking for. Some of them are not able to pronounce certain words in Hindi correctly but then they can always be trained well once they get selected. So far, I’ve come across some very good singers and it was a pleasure listening to them.”  Vaishali Prabhu, who hails from Kumta and who is trained in classical music, emerged as a very good singer and was very confident when she sang.

Judge Ashish said he had never listened to somebody as good as her in the auditions. Radha, a participant, said, “I was extremely nervous initially, the judge was very nice and he made the environment a bit comfortable. So I was able to sing well and cleared the first round. I’ve been training in Hindustani music for about eight years now. That is why I’ve been able to sing so confidently today.”
