HC nod for DNA test on Halappa

The JMFC court in Shimoga on May 21 had allowed the CID to proceed with tests and Halappa had approached the HC against the order. Rejecting the contention of Halappa’s counsel that audio samples could be misused,  Justice  C R Kumaraswamy dismissed the plea, stating that the samples could be collected by the investigating officer.

Nithyananda’s bail plea

The High Court has directed the CID to produce all the investigation materials collected against self proclaimed godman Nithyananda.   Hearing the appeal by Nithyananda who has challenged the lower court’s order denying him a bail, Justice Subhash B Adi directed the CID on Wednesday  to produce all the materials to the court and has adjourned the hearing to June 8.

Former Advocate General and Nithyananda's counsel B V Acharya in his submission said the entire episode is a conspiracy to tarnish the image of his client.  

Excess school fee

The High Court has ordered notice to Education Department and two private aided schools for collecting more than the stipulated fee. Mohan Aslam and others had filed a petition stating that Goodwill School and BMS Primary School on St John’s Road were charging fee in excess of Rs 600 prescribed by the government.

Goodwill School was collecting Rs 7,000 to Rs 7,500 while BMS school had been charging Rs 7,000 to Rs 9,000 per student. The petitioners have prayed that the schools be instructed not to collect more than the prescribed amount.
