Guv's office under RTI: HC adjourns hearing

Last Updated 28 May 2010, 17:04 IST

Vijay Kumar, a City-based advocate, had filed an application seeking information on the affidavits sworn to by the then JD(S) legislators after the term of H D Kumaraswamy’s government ended. The MLAs, in their affidavit, had stated that they would offer unconditional support to their coalition partner BJP to form the government in the State. However later on they withdrew support after their term ended in 2007.

Then Governor Rameshwar Thakur refused to give the information citing confidentiality. Vijay Kumar approached the Chief Information Commissioner who directed the Governor’s office to share the information. The order was challenged in the High Court.

During the hearing, the Advocate General submitted he will seek instruction from the Governor’s office in view of the new incumbent. Justice Ram Mohan Reddy adjourned the matter to June first week.
