Suspected cholera claims 2 lives, 12 hospitalised

Gram Panchayat member Mani breathed his last on Thursday night while Kanhi (60) of Balaji village died on Friday morning. Those who are admitted in the hospital with symptoms are Safiya, Manje, Ammuni, Joobi, Seethe, Chembu, Bhoja, Sanju, Karpu, Kulli and Chinnamani. The condition of Ramu is said to be critical and he has been shifted to Madikeri for further treatment.

It is said that they were suffering from suspected cholera symptoms in Besagur and Balaji for the last three days. Mani was suffering from the symptoms for the last four days. As he failed to take medicine, he breathed his last. His wife Joobi is also suffering from the symptoms and the condition is said to be critical.

Taluk Medical Officer Dr Yathiraj said “there is possibility of spreading of cholera owing to the consmption of impure water. The blood samples of the patients have been sent to Mysore laboratory. The condition of Joobi and Seethe is said to be serious. Others are recovering.”  DHO Dr Shivaram Nayak visited the hospital and the house of Kanha. In the meantime, Gonikoppa Gram Panchayat has directed all the hotels to supply hot water and to maintain cleanliness along with renewing the license.
