Woman set ablaze

The cops identified the victim as Suma, a housewife. After nearly five years of courtship, Suma married Madhukar, a truck driver much against the wishes of her family. The couple have a 18-month-old son.

According to Suma’s dying statement, six of her relatives - Nagappa, Devaraj, Chandrashekar, Harish, Radhamma and Lakshmana were hell bent on separating her from her husband and son. On the ill-fated day, after a heated argument, they doused her with kerosene and set ablaze.

Suma was rushed to the hospital and after 32 hours, she succumbed to burns. The police, who have registered a complaint from Suma’s husband, are also looking into money and land dispute angle too.
