A huge group of journalists had assembled at the Mangalore Airport to cover CM’s visit but unfortunately, the Information Department vehicle carrying the reporters was stopped from following CM’s vehicle by a Police Constable.

When a reporter and cameraman from a television channel tried speaking to the PC, he wielded lathi at the two, which raged the group of journalists. The issue became serious when the Sub Inspectors at the spot paid no heed to the journalists. Ultimately, scribes decided to boycott the programme and Panambur Circle Inspector Valentine D’Souza, MLC Ganesh Karnik, Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj and Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh’s attempts to convince scribes to change their decision went in vain. With this episode, the CM had to withhold all the programme scheduled and convene a meeting to hear what the journalists had to say at Circuit House.

CM speaks
“This is not the problem of Mangalore alone. This is the problem with the police all over the State. They need to be told that they cannot behave in this way,” said CM taking serious note of issue. He immediately ordered to relieve the official concerned from duty. He also directed the Commissioner to see to it that such instances do not repeat.  However, later responding to the request made by the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalist Association President Harsha, on behalf of all the journalists, the CM promised to withdraw the relieving order of the official, on humanitarian grounds.
