Five-day coaching camp for specially abled athletes

More than 400 special athletes to participate in the event

The camp is being sponsored by Sports Authority of India and more than 400 special athletes and coaches from seven states will participate in the camp.

Speaking at a press conference held in the city recently, co-ordinator of the camp, P S Balakrishnan said that camp provides opportunities for intensive training in various events in athletics to Special Olympics Athletes.

The camp also offers adequate orientation to coaches and volunteers.
On-field and off-field training will be provided to athletes along with orientation on the vision and mission of special olympics, sports rules and regulations, and ability of grouping will also be taught during the coaching camp session.

Theory classes
Separate theory classes with demonstration will be held on track and field events for the coaches and teacher trainees, said the co-ordinator.

Experience
“The primary focus of the Mysore camp is to provide specially abled athletes to enjoy the experience of participating in a full sports camp.
It is expected to build positive relationship and friendship between athletes and volunteers,” said Balakrishnan.Prior to the inaugural function, participants will conduct a ‘Public Awareness Rally’ starting from Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry at 3 pm.
The rally will pass through Rajkamal Theatre, Shivarampet, D D Urs Road, J L B Road, MUDA circle and culminate at University Oval Grounds.
