Growers to meet Chief Minister

A dicussion was held under the presidentship of Kodagu Coffee Growers Co-operative Society President M B Devaiah at Coffee Kripa hall on Friday.

The meet was attended by Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy, who in turn agreed to take a delegation to the Chief Minister. Shankaramurthy called upon all the elected representatives irrespective of party to join the delegation. He assured to find a solution to the rejuvenation of the society after fixing a date to meet the CM.

He said that with the recommendations of Prof Vaidyanathan Committee, the Society can be made free from loan. The Society has a loan to the tune of Rs 14 crore. To find solution to the problem as per the recommendation of the Committee, there are some technical problems as well.

He said that the government had paid Rs 5 crore to the Shimoga Areacant Growers Co-operative Society and have borne the loss.

Society President M B Devaiah said: “We will urge the government to waive off the loan borrowed from the DCC Bank. The Society is incurring a loss of Rs 14 crore. We had submitted a proposal of Rs 3.41 crore to the government during the previous government. However, it has not been released so far. The Society owns two petrol bunks and 58 acre property. It fetches Rs 2 lakh income per month. The government should support in rejuvenating the society.”

Managing Director Guruswamy said the Society has Rs 3.7 crore loan from the DCC Bank. The Society has to pay a sum of Rs 52 lakh as tax to the Society.
The society transacts 80 tonne coffee annually.
