Veena recital presented

Saraswathi is a proud asset of Mysore who is also a custodian of the spiritual values that goes along with this sacred instrument called Veena. She has imbibed all the graces of Saraswati.

She has lived up to this reputation by strict adherence to tradition and the Gayaki style which she strongly believes in. Veena is both a vehicle of her aesthetic expression as well as an extension of her spiritual life. This reveals itself in her playing. The purity of notes along with the integrity  of  classicism and the uncompromising adherence to tradition make the hallmark of her playing.

Saraswathi’s  specialty lies in bringing out the spirit and essence of a composition. For instance ‘Saraswathi namosthuthe’(Saraswathi-GNB) and ‘Varanarada Narayana’(Vijayashri –Tyagaraja). The way she maintained the structure and cohesion of the composition was remarkable.

Anandabhairavi is a vakra raga which is usually not opted for a detailed exposition. But Saraswathi evoked stately and serene images by her deft handling of this raga.
Shyama Shastri’s ‘Marivere dikkevaramma’ was soothing with raga bhava. Keeravani was radiant with ragabhava sancharas. Her creativity was in full bloom and it seemed like she was intensifying the sentiments of the raga.  ‘Ambavani’ of Muthiah Bhagavathar was played splendidly.

Kalpana swaras had all the interesting combinations that made it more interesting. Ravishankar and Ramesh added for the success of the concert.
