Satyam's Raju appears before court wearing face mask

Raju, the prime accused in the Rs 14,000-crore accounting scam in the IT firm Satyam, made his fifth appearance in the XXI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM)
court, after he got bail from the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Raju, who is suffering from hepatic ailment, and is undergoing treatment for Hepatitis C at NIMS hospital here since September last year. Raju, according to NIMS authorities, is attending court proceedings against the medical advice and has been asked to wear the face mask.

"I had advised him (Raju) to wear the mask right from day one since he decided to attend the court proceedings," Dr Ajit Kumar told PTI, adding Raju had developed some infection and was down with fever.

When asked what infection Raju was suffering from, the doctor said, "We are already giving him some anti-biotic and waiting for the medical report to determine the cause of the infection and will start a course of anti-biotic based on the findings of the report," he said.

Amidst reports that Raju's family wanted him to be shifted to other (private) hospital from NIMS, Ajit Kumar said "It was nothing like that." The doctor said as of now Raju's health condition is fine and treatment for his hepatic ailment is still on at NIMS.

"If they want Raju to get discharge from NIMS and shift him to other place then it was upto them, but Raju is likely to continue his treatment at NIMS itself," the doctor said.
While granting bail to Raju, the High Court had laid out condition that he should appear in the trial court (XXI ACMM court) for each hearing.

Meanwhile, CBI's counsel K Surendera told reporters that seven of the ten accused in the Satyam fraud case had completed their arguments seeking discharge from the case.

"Arguments on discharge petitions of accused number two--Satyam's former MD Rama Raju, and two others would come up for hearing on September 6," the CBI counsel said.
