Last Updated 05 September 2010, 18:02 IST

The Chief Minister who was in Chennai for two days for a medical check-up at a private hospital visited the ancient Dharabaraneshwaraswamy Temple in Thirunallar which also houses the famous shrine for ‘Lord Saneeshwara’ (Planet Saturn), where he offered pooja.
He declared the financial assistance as part of Rs one crore project to construct a ‘Maha Mantapam’ in the temple, sources said.

The largesse comes barely after two months after his Rs one crore assistance for the renovation of 12th century Vishunu temple at Thiruvaheendrapuram in Cuddalore district.
Yeddyurappa offered puja at several other temples dedicated to various planetary deities in composite Thanjavur district before reaching Thirunallar, sources said.

Telephonic conversation

While in Chennai, the Chief Minister had a telephonic conversation with his Tamil Nadu counterpart, M Karunanidhi when both had a “cordial exchange of views” on releasing Cauvery waters to the lower riparian State.

As heavy rains are expected in the river’s catchment areas in Karnataka in the next four to five days, the Chief Minister sought to placate political sentiments on this issue here when he told reporters at Karaikal, literally the tail-end of the delta, that he was ready to release Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu shortly. “But only God’s grace can help to find a permanent settlement to the Cauvery river water sharing issue,” he quipped.
