Murder convict gets lifer

Prakash, resident of Torebommanahalli village of Maddur taluk was convicted of killing  Siddamma of Hosahalli village of Malavalli taluk from last May, 2007. Judge M K Hajuvala announced the verdict and Public Prosecutor T N Srinath argued the case.

Youth dies in mishap

A bike rider died when the bike he was riding was hit by an unidentified vehicle in an incident that occurred near Gejjalagere colony in Maddur taluk on Saturday night.

Anilkumar (27), driver by profession at Mandya Milk Union, native of Toreshettihalli village is the deceased. He was returning to his native when the mishap occurred.

He succumbed to the injuries while being rushed to the hospital. Town Police have registered a hit and run case and investigations are on.

In Hassan

Six cows, which were grazing in the field, died of electrocution after they came into contact with an electric wire which was hanging loose from an electric pole. The incident occurred at Ankihalli village of Belur taluk on Saturday. These cows belong to coffee planter Jayaswamy of the village.

Speaking to press persons, Jayaswamy accused that negligence of employees of the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) in fixing the wires is the main reason for the incident. He demanded the officials of district administration to compensate for the loss. On receipt of information, Arehalli police, employees of Animal Husbandry and CESC officials visited the spot.
