The agitationsts  under the banner of Engineering Service Coordination Committee (ESCC) have decided not to report for duties  till Wednesday.

“If the demand to book the culprits in the Pandey murder case is not met, besides adequate compensation for the bereaved family, all the engineers owing allegiance to Bihar Engineering Service Association , Power Engineering Service Association,  Mechanical Engineering Service Association, Subordinate Engineering Service Association  and Power Junior Engineer Service Association, will  resort to indefinite strike from Thursday,” said ESCC president Aditya Narain.

Pandey was reportedly killed by the contractor of a construction company in Sitamarhi on June 18. The ESCC has also demanded a CBI probe into the cold-blooded killing of the engineer in the view of conflicting reports of autopsy conducted on the deceased’s body.

Up in arms over the denial of security cover to Pandey, who had informed the DM and the SP about the threat to his life, the ESCC has asked the chief minister to fix responsibility on Secretary of the Road Construction Department. They also demanded action against the DM and the SP of Sitamarhi.

Apart from security cover for engineers, the ESCC has demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation to the next of kin of the deceased engineer, regular salary along with promotional benefits be paid to the family of the deceased, regular pension after his due retirement date, Rs 10 lakh for the purpose of his daughter’s marriage, government job to one of the dependents .
