Deccan Herald spoke to some of the citizens to get their view on parking problems and the solutions.

Sheshagiri Rao, a shop owner on D D Urs Road, said that  authorities concerned should make alternate arrangements on roads including D D Urs Road, Shivarampet and Ashoka Road as they are the most used by people.
With the increased traffic inflow during Dasara, Sheshagiri Rao feels that alternate parking arrangements are definitely necessary.
Reminiscing earlier times, he said that never he expected to see such an increase in the number of vehicles.

However, he believes the side lanes should be used in such a way that it can be used for parking. He said that there is a lot of land available in Devaraja traffic police station premises, which can be made useful for parking.
“The issue is regularly being raised, but what are they doing?” he questions the steps taken to solve the problem.

He also demanded that there should be no parking fees levied on the people. He said that the government should build more convenient parking spaces.
Another city resident, Thyagarajan said that it is the duty of the government to provide parking space wherever necessary. With the growing population, it is imperative that the number of vehicles will also increase. “If the government can charge taxes for everything under the sun, then they also have to provide facilities for the convenience of the public,” he said. Multi-level parking is another common demand from people.

Empty spaces
According to businessman Srikumar, empty spaces in and around crowded areas should be used for making parking lots. With tourists increasing during Dasara, he said that majority of businesses will face a problem due to insufficient parking space.
While the tourists and public gear up for Dasara, it has to be seen what the district administration and city corporation does to solve the public’s parking woes.
