Jaya opposes CET for PG medical courses

"I urge the Centre to withdraw the proposal of introducing common entrance exams as it would affect the welfare of the people belonging to poor, underprivilege, rural areas and backward community," she said in a statement.

By and large there was a feeling that the subject education should be shifted from Concurrent List to State list, and added at this juncture, the Centre's proposal was totally against state autonomy, she said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had opposed the proposal only through the state's submission in Supreme Court and was keeping "quiet on the issue," she added.

"If the (state's) 69 per cent reservation policy has to be protected, Karunanidhi should have tried to prevail upon the Centre for changing its move to introduce entrance exams for PG medical courses, which is against the social justice, or should have withdrawn his support from the government at the Centre," she stated.
