Cricket tournament for visually challenged

Sahodaya, an outreach programme of St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, will organise ‘Kalarava’, a two-day state-level inter-school cricket tournament and cultural festival for visually challenged children, at St Aloysius College centenary ground on January 13 and 14.

Former captain of the Indian Cricket Team for the blind Lakshman Shekhar Naik will inaugurate the tournament at 9 am on January 13. The valedictory function will be held at 3 pm on January 14. Samarthanam International Founder chairman and World Blind Cricket Ltd President Mahantesh G K will be the chief guest.

The eight teams taking part in the tournament are The Deepa Academy for the differently abled, Bengaluru, Shree Sharada Devi Andhara Vikasa Kendra, Shivamogga, The Deepa Academy for the differently abled, Chamararajanagar, JSB Free Residential School for the Blind, Ramanagara, Roman and Catherine Lobo School for Blind, Mangaluru, Jyana Prajnya Blind Residential School, Mungod, Asha Kirana School for Blind - Chikkamagaluru and The Karnataka Welfare Association for the Blind, Bengaluru.

Each participating school will receive a sum of Rs 10,000 as honorarium. Outstanding schools will be provided with free accommodation and travel allowance of Rs 12,000 each. The first and second-place winners will be given a trophy with Rs 10,000 and Rs 6,000 cash price respectively. And the winners and runners-up of cultural fest will be awarded with a trophy along with cash prize of Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively.
