CWC asks police to locate dead baby Falak's father

Wants to hear him before deciding on custody of kids

City's child welfare committee has asked police to help locate the biological father of Falak, the battered baby who died in hospital on March 15.

The CWC argued that locating the father is necessary for the next step in rehabilitating Falak's mother Munni Khatoon and the two other children she had with Shah Hussain.
The committee argued that as long as  Hussain does not appear before the CWC bench, it will not be able to give the children's full custody to the mother.

Missing for years

Hussain has however been ‘missing’ for years.

After he left the family in Bihar, Munni fell into the trap laid by Shankar, who allegedly trafficked women. Shankar is one of the accused in the Falak case.

On Thursday, a bench of magistrates at the CWC issued an order asking the special juvenile police unit to support the investigation.

The order was also circulated to deputy commissioner of police (south), station house officer, Vasant Kunj, CWC's Lajpat Nagar office and Mohammed Munif, Shankar's brother.

In the order, the magistrates have expressed astonishment over the father's apathy.

“Inspite of so much media coverage, Shah Hussain did not turn up even once to enquire about his wife and children, even after the police visited his house in Muzaffarpur in Bihar several times,” the order said.

According to his family members, Hussain's is working in Gurgaon at a tyre-repair shop.

“If he knows that his child and wife are in trouble why has he not turned up to help his family in this dire situation? Our main aim is to rehabilitate the family,” said Raj Mangal Prasad, chairman of CWC, Lajpat Nagar.

Meanwhile, Delhi government's  department of women and child development has given an appointment letter to Munni Khatoon to join as a “house aunty” for children at CWC, Lajpat Nagar.

Navreen Khan, a welfare officer informed the bench that Munni is away for a wedding and is likely to return in a few days, when she will be informed about her job.

Khan also said that a well wisher from Canada had contacted the CWC to extend financial help to Falak's family. He has deposited Rs 10,000 in her bank account. 

The next date of hearing is June 27, when the bench expects Hussain to present his case.
