Pink polling stations to be set up in Mysuru district soon

For the first time, the District Election Office (DEO) has decided to establish ‘Pink polling stations’ in the district.

While five Pink polling stations will be established in Mysuru city, each constituency in rural Mysuru will have one such voting station, said Deputy Commissioner KB Sivakumar, also the District Election Officer.

At a press conference here, the DEO said, the Pink polling booths will be managed by women staff, including presiding officers, polling officers, micro observers and security personnel.

Sivakumar said the core election process will start from Tuesday and DEO has set up offices for Returning Officers at every constituency in the district. The Election Commission has appointed nine general observers, eight expenditure observers and two police observers for the district.

Informing about the preparation work, the DC said, the DEO has planned web casting from at least 10% polling stations.

The district has 2,860 polling stations. Similarly, web camera coverage and video coverage will be done at sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations.

The DC said Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be sent to respective constituencies by the end of April.

Expenditure Sensitive

Sivakumar said the Election Commission has declared five of the 11 Assembly segments as Expenditure Sensitive constituencies and the numbers may change after core election process commences, he said.

MCC violation

The Election officials have conducted 110 excise raids, arrested 32 persons and seized 513 litres of alcohol worth Rs 7.48 lakh. The officials also seized seven vehicles so far.

Similarly, the officials also seized 74 T-shirts at K R Nagar. The shirts were seized from a programme organised to celebrate B R Ambedkar Jayanti. However, an investigation is on, the DC said.

Palace DD case

The Election Commission has disposed of a complaint registered against Mysuru Palace Board Deputy Director T S Subramanya for allegedly trying to taint the image of Palace Board Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Shylendra. He had accused him of misusing his official vehicle to transport money for a political party leader, who is also a candidate in the Assembly election.

However, an FIR has been registered with Mysuru City Police.

EC writes to UoM

The DC said that the DEO has directed officials to take action against varsity professors for participating in the election campaign for a particular candidate.

The officials have also written to the authorities concerned to act against central government employees for the same reason.
