The taluk received good rain in the last 15 days and the lakes and streams have regained their life.
Preparations are on for the sowing of seeds in most parts of the taluk.
Normally, cotton is sown during the season. So far, only 35 hectares out of 550 hectares of cotton fields have been sown.
Onion has to be sown in 2500 hectares of land and the work is expected to start in the next couple of days.
Paddy is planned to be cultivated on 350 hectares, finger millet in 31,500 hectares, hybrid jowar in 300 hectares, corn in 12,000 hectares, millet in 2500 hectares and split grains in 9,750 hectares.
Oil seeds such as groundnut, sunflower and others will be sown on 11,650 hectares of land of which the sowing in 765 hectares is complete.
Agriculture Department Assistant Director In-charge T C Chandru said that sowing is carried out on 1870 hectares of land out of 68,700 hectares of land.
Horticulture Department Deputy Director C Manjunath said that the department is distributing coconut and areca saplings to eligible farmers free of cost.
The farmers may also purchase extra coconut saplings priced at Rs 50 per sapling.
The amount of rain received in various places is as follows: Jodihochihalli (28 mm), Udugere (4mm), Nagenahalli (16 mm), Tangali (46 mm), Keresanthe (29 mm), Kamanakere (10 mm), Chikkadevanuru (22mm) and Jiganehalli (34mm).
