Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar on Sunday charged BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa with trying to influence the government contracts by mounting pressure on the officials and the contractors.

“Yeddyurappa has been calling up the officials and the contractors to influence the government contracts. He is doing it under the impression that he will become chief minister soon,” he told reporters.

The BJP cannot destabilise the JD(S)-Congress coalition at any cost. “None of the Congress MLAs is ready to support the BJP. The saffron party cannot buy any of our legislators. Let him (Yeddyurappa) continue daydreaming,” Shivakumar said, adding that Congress president Rahul Gandhi has already said H D Kumaraswamy will remain the chief minister for full five years’ term.

Asked about the BJP leaders’ claim that 20 disgruntled Congress legislators are ready to switch sides after May 23, the Water Resources minister said nothing will change after May 23. “Yeddyurappa is wrong. All 222 legislators are in touch with him. Similarly, all the legislators are in touch with the Congress also,” he stated.
