Dear Ali uncle,

I’ve written many letters to you, rambling and otherwise. Perhaps that’s why this one is so hard. How do I tell the world that you are less a person more a feeling? How do I tell people that our conversation never once flags simply because you love the world and make me love it too?

You write me letters because I enjoy the feel of paper in my hands. You display my paintings and write back talking about each one. Your enthusiasm while introducing me to new topics, books and places is infectious. I find it’s a common trait in the ones I love; to push me into things I feel unprepared for.

Here’s to my youngest (at heart) friend. You told me people might forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel. You are my happy place and I look forward to many more letters exchanged.

Love,

Shipra Rai, 15

My loving family,

Many believe that Valentine’s Day is about couples celebrating their love. However, I believe that it’s a day to celebrate love in general with our friends and family. I am writing this to tell them how much I love my family, which includes my sister. She is grumpy at times and sometimes, we even fight. But, deep down, I know that she cares for me. My mother, who despite facing many hardships in life, brought us up till where we are today. Taking this oppurtunity, I would also like to wish my grandparents for supporting me and showering me with gifts and words of wisdom. I thank my friend for sharing a great camaraderie with me and giving me amazing memories.

With love,

Dear Vinti,

Happy belated Valentine’s Day!

Being your sister has been such a blessing, and I am thankful for every second we have spent together, even though we fight a lot sometimes. I am always grateful for your care, friendship, and support. I am truly appreciative of your company and patience and am fortunate to have you by my side. You have a huge heart and you constantly put others before yourself, improving the world with your goodwill and compassion. One of my biggest delights in life has been seeing you grow and blossom, and I am looking forward to everything that you will achieve in the future.

I want you to know how much you mean to me and how much I appreciate you. Since you are my best friend, my confidant, and my anchor, I am extremely thankful to have you in my life. I wish you a Valentine’s Day full of all the love and joy you deserve.

Lovingly and affectionately,

Tisha Mittal, 16
