The family members of a patient, who died following failure to respond to the treatment, have urged the authorities to set up a super speciality hospital in the district.

They alleged that owing to negligence by the doctor, Karim (30) of Ranipete died while undergoing treatment at the District Government Hospital. Poor patients suffer without superspeciality government hospital in the district, they said.

Karim’s brother Aboobakkar said, “Karim was admitted to the district hospital following low blood pressure on July 19. In spite of appealing for superspeciality doctors, none responded to us. The doctors at the hospital asked us to shift the patient to Mysuru or Mangaluru. But the ambulance service was not available.”

In case of emergency, the poor patients suffer. The government should set up a superspeciality hospital in the district, he said.

He said, “On July 19, the road was blocked for 30 minutes on account of the arrival of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to Madikeri. As a result, there was a delay in reaching the hospital, which could be one of the reasons for my brother’s death.”
