HDMP to distribute 2 buckets to each house

In a major push to achieve segregation of waste as part of integrated solid waste management project, the Hubballi-Dharwad Mahanagara Palike (HDMP) has decided to distribute two buckets each to every house in the twin cities for waste segregation.

The HDMP general body meeting, Chaired by Mayor Sudhir Saraf here on Thursday, approved the tenders finalised to distribute blue and green colour buckets of 10 litre capacity each, to all 2.20 lakh houses in the twin cities. This move is aimed at motivating citizens to participate in the SWM project implementation, by segregating waste at source.

The citizens have to collect wet and dry waste separately in two buckets, before giving them to the auto-tippers that shift the garbage.

Rs 1.72 crore under the 14th Finance Commission grants, and Rs 1.98 crore under the HDMP's general fund were earmarked for the project. Tenders were called last month, and 11 bidders participated. Now, two separate tenders (Rs 1.25 crore, and Rs 1.43 crore) by Campus Polyplast Private Limited have been approved.

The HDMP also approved the proposal to call tenders for operation & maintenance of compost plants to be developed at the garbage dumping yards in Hubballi and Dharwad, at a cost of Rs 1.85 crore and Rs 1.30 crore, respectively.

Charges hiked

Meanwhile, the HDMP also agreed to increase the charges of surgeries at its Chitaguppi Hospital in Hubballi, and Maternity Hospital in Dharwad, to increase the payment to private doctors who are performing surgeries in these hospitals.

The meeting also decided to name the multi-purpose sports complex in Dharwad after former Union minister Late H N Ananth kumar.

The HDMP general body also gave administrative approval to call tenders to fill potholes before monsoon, at a cost of Rs 3.60 crore, using the fund allocation to be made in the next financial year.

Pending bills of contractors, construction of buildings on CA site, encroachment of nala margin, and confusion about rented land were also discussed in the meeting.
