The eastern state has been receiving heavy rainfall since Saturday morning under the impact of a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. The local weather office has predicted more rainfall in the state during the next 24 hours.

Four people, including a woman and a child, died and 10 others injured when a passenger bus was washed away by rain water in tribal-dominated Rayagara district on Saturday. The accident occurred when the bus was crossing a small bridge. Two passengers have been reported missing.

In another separate rain-related incident, three members of a family died on the spot and three others injured when lightening struck a slum in coastal Cuttack town on Saturday night. The three victims— a  labourer, his wife and their two-year-old daughter—who died in the mishap were sleeping in their thatched house when the incident took place.
