Biographies on Vajpayee, history of Constitution among books on Indian politics to be released in 2025

New Delhi: Memoirs by lawyer-politician Abhishek Manu Singhvi, two biographies on Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a deep dive into Congress’ 2024 election strategy co-authored by Salman Khurshid, and a short history of the Constitution by Shashi Tharoor are among a series of books from the world of Indian politics that are likely to hit the stands in 2025.

Former President Ram Nath Kovind's autobiography, which was slated to be published in 2024, is likely to finally hit the stands next year, in which he be would be sharing the "story of his life, with its struggles and pain, disappointments and triumphs, and his dogged determination and courage of conviction that helped him cope with the slings and arrows of life".

Senior Congress MP Singhvi's autobiography is promised to be a "no-holds-barred story of his life", while Khurshid along with Mrityunjay Singh Yadav in their 'Contesting Democratic Deficit' would be providing an "insider’s view" on the 2024 elections centred around Congress' view of the world in the critical year and its election strategies and outcomes.

After the success of 'Vajpayee: The Ascent of the Hindu Right, 1924–1977', young scholar Abhishek Choudhary would be coming up with the second volume in which the former Prime Minister’s life from 1977 would be analysed and is promised to be the “first major inquiry into the psychology of the most glamourised and enigmatic Indian politician in recent history”.

Diplomat Ajay Bisaria, who closely worked with the former Prime Minister, will be coming up with 'Atal Bihari Vajpayee: A Life'. Bisaria had unfettered access to Vajpayee's inner circle.

Quintessential writer Tharoor’s book 'Constitution: A Short History’ comes at a time the Opposition has made it their ‘Bible’ in the fight against the Narendra Modi government.

His party colleague Manish Tewari’s offering for 2025 ‘The Delhi Perspective: Reimagining Global Power in a Defining Decade’ will examine how traditional flashpoints are converging with emerging challenges while arguing that India’s response to these would determine not just its own trajectory, but the future balance of power across Asia.

Co-written by Deep Mukherjee and Tabeenah Anjum, 'From Dynasties to Democracy: Politics, Caste and Power Struggles in Rajasthan' will also be launched in 2025. The book will explore the local dynamics of the Congress and the BJP–RSS, the fissures within these parties, caste and gender atrocities, and its socio-political evolution among others.

In his memoirs 'I Witness: India - From Nehru to Narendra', former Rajya Sabha MP and journalist Shahid Siddiqui will share his personal experiences as a witness to the developments in post-independent India.

Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav's 'Shaping of the Bharatiya Renaissance', which was to hit bookstores this year but was delayed, is also likely to be released in 2025. The book will talk about how many of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies mirror what RSS proponent and trade union leader Dattopant Thengadi had envisioned for India’s development journey.
