Complaint agnst Chhattisgarh minister reaches Prez

Levelling charges of government land grab and corruption against Chhattisgarh Agriculture and Water Resources Minister Brijmohan Agrawal, his wife and son, state Congress leaders filed a complaint before the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) seeking early probe.

A complaint has also been sent to the President of India as the leaders felt the state government would drag its feet.

According to the complaint, in village Jalki of Mahasamund district, the minister, his wife Sarita and son Abhishek had acquired forest, canal and dam land for their resort, with the help of conniving state government officials. The officials altered revenue records and transferred the lands to the minister and family, it is alleged.

As no probe was initiated against the officials, Congress Communication section member and former Mayor Kiranmayee Nayak had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the state High Court, making EOW Chhattisgarh a party. The EOW then filed an affidavit stating that a probe would be held, following which the court disposed of the PIL.

During the state assembly election in 2013, petitioner Kiranmayee Nayak, who was then Raipur Municipal Corporation Mayor, contested as Congress party candidate against minister Brijmohan Agrawal. She lost the poll. She then filed an election petition against Agrawal for exceeding the poll expenditure limit for candidates.
