The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has flagged several cases of irregularity in reimbursement of fee of students enrolled in unaided schools in Karnataka under the 25% quota in admissions meant for those belonging to the economically weaker sections (EWS) of society.

It also observed irregularity in the EWS quota fee reimbursement to unaided schools in Bihar, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh.

In its report to Parliament recently, the national auditor has observed that as many as 1,304 unaided schools in Karnataka’s Basavakalyan, Bhalki, Bidar and Humnabad taluks were reimbursed Rs 13.15 crore for EWS quota admissions during 2012-13 to 2015-16 without any receipt of the certified annual accounts.

According to the rules, the schools were required to submit their annual accounts, duly certified by a chartered accountant, along with their claim for reimbursement of fee in a prescribed format, it added.
