J&K govt activates 24X7 helpline for Kasmiris facing threats outside after Pahlagm attack

Srinagar: Amid growing concern and distress among Kashmiris living outside the Union Territory—particularly students—the government of Jammu and Kashmir has activated a 24x7 helpline through its Resident Commission in New Delhi to offer support and assistance.

The move comes in the wake of disturbing videos circulating on social media showing Kashmiri students allegedly being assaulted in several parts of the country in the aftermath of the recent deadly terror attack in Pahalgam.

“Fear and distress expressed by Kashmiri’s outside, especially students who are being attacked in the aftermath of the dastardly Pahalgam incident seen on videos circulating, is deeply concerning. Urge the concerned authorities to immediately intervene and ensure their safety and protection,” Hurriyat Conference chairman and Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq posted on X.

In response, the J&K Resident Commission in New Delhi has issued a public notice providing multiple contact numbers for students and residents of J&K studying or staying in different states. These numbers will remain operational round the clock, according to the notice signed by the Additional Resident Commissioner.

Authorities have urged Kashmiri students to remain in touch and report any threats or incidents immediately. Meanwhile, civil society groups and student unions have called for increased protection and a halt to targeted harassment.
