A day after the elections to the zilla and taluk panchayats concluded, more than 10 people were injured after Congress party workers raided the house of a JD(S) party leader at Rudrakshipura village in the taluk on Sunday.

According to the police, Congress party supporters identified as Varada, Basavaraju, Anu, Vinod and others, barged into the house of Kencha, a JD(S) leader and assaulted his mother Savithramma, relatives Manjanna, Shivanna, Lakshmamma, Shobha and others who were present at the house, with clubs. They also broke flower pots and damaged windows panes.

According to the complaint lodged by Savithramma, “The assailants snatched gold ornaments weighing around 300 grams, before escaping from the spot.”
The injured are being treated at the town hospital.

Political rivalry
Political enmity is said to be the reason behind the incident. According to sources, there were heated arguments between the workers of the Congress and the JD(S) during the ZP polls held on Saturday.

Following this, Kencha of JD(S) and his accomplices had allegedly assaulted Raju of Congress on Sunday morning. When the Congress workers came to know about the incident, Varada, Basavaraju and others barged into Kencha’s house and attacked his mother and others.

The Town police, who have received complaints from both sides, have begun an investigation. Police security has been beefed up in the village to prevent any untoward incidents.
