1930 helpline launched for cyber crime related complaints in Karnataka

Bengaluru: In an effort to digital crime prevention and redressal, the Karnataka State Police have launched 1930 cyber crime helpline on Tuesday.

It was launched by Alok Mohan, Director General and Inspector General of Police.

This newly launched helpline integrates the WebBOT technology with multilingual support among other advanced features to provide efficient response to victims of online financial fraud. 

WebBOT is a self-service complaint registration system which activates via SMS when call lines are busy. 

The multilingual Interactive Voice Response (IVR) is available in Kannada, Hindi and English with categorisation of cyber crimes based on financial, non-financial and status enquiry related grievances. 

The helpline also enables tools to assist people with real-time suspect and victim profiling by connecting the caller with investigative teams. 

Callers also receive real-time queue position updates and complaint status via SMS.

Speaking after the launch, Alok Mohan, Director General and Inspector General of Police, said that the initiative is a part of their larger goal to modernise public safety with tech intervention. "In today’s digital era, the nature of crime has evolved, and so must our response systems. This upgraded helpline, with its integrated WebBOT and multilingual capabilities, ensures that citizens receive timely and effective assistance. It is our responsibility to provide accessible, transparent, and responsive support to every victim of cybercrime," he said. 

The initiative has been supported by modern infrastructure with a project investment of Rs 1 crore. Citizens are requested to call the 1930 helpline for assistance during a cyber fraud.
