Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday said the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will launch doorstep delivery of draft e-khata copies in July.
.
The campaign, he said, will take off on a pilot basis in the Byatarayanapura assembly constituency. The civic body plans to dispatch about 20 lakh draft e-khata copies.
.
"We have designed a campaign for disbursal of e-khatas in Bengaluru. In Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda’s constituency, we have kept ready 25,000 e-khatas and they will be delivered to the doorsteps from July 1," he said.
.Nandini vs Amul row spills onto Bengaluru Metro stations.
"There are about 25 lakh properties and only about five lakh people have received the e-khata. The campaign will go on for a month," he informed.
.
The Deputy Chief Minister made the statement after holding a closed-door meeting with Congress legislators and senior officials from different departments of Bengaluru.
.
During the meeting, MLAs reportedly shared concerns about delays in issuing e-khatas, including new e-khatas for apartments. They also requested the government to release grants for development works and address garbage problems.
.
The announcement of reaching 20 lakh houses with draft e-khatas will be easier said than done. This is because the BBMP does not have a complete address database of property owners. Moreover, doorstep delivery of draft e-khatas will only help property owners who are unable to find their document on the website. It does not address the problems faced by property owners struggling to get the final e-khata after downloading the draft document.
.
Ministers like KJ George, Krishna Byre Gowda, Zameer Ahmed Khan, and Byrathi Suresh were present at the meeting. Heads of different departments, including the BBMP, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd (BSWML) were also present.
.
Jayanagar MLA CK Ramamurthy questioned the government for not inviting BJP MLAs to the meeting.
.
It is learnt that the meeting did not discuss the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, which is long due as there is no clarity about extending the BBMP limits to accommodate development areas in the city’s periphery.
