BBMP triggers controversy, transfers three chief engineers ignoring cadre rules

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has recently executed a minor administrative reshuffle, transferring three chief engineers.

The move has attracted scrutiny as the civic body did not obtain prior approval from the state government, which is required under the Cadre and Recruitment (C&R) Rules.

Former councillor and BJP leader NR Ramesh has raised concerns in his complaint, stating that the BBMP chief commissioner lacks the authority to transfer chief engineers according to the existing regulations.

He said such powers, particularly for positions above executive engineers, are reserved for the government.

Earlier this week, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath transferred Basavaraj Kabade from his role at the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd, appointing M Lokesh instead. Additionally, KV Ravi has been assigned as Chief Engineer for Mahadevapura Zone.
