In a joint operation, CCB sleuths and vigilance officials of the telecom department raided an illegal international telephone exchange unit that converted international calls to domestic ones, inflicting loss worth crores of rupees to BSNL.

The CCB police arrested Tameezullah (38), living in Bismillah Nagar, for operating the illegal telephone exchange from his house in Suddaguntepalya for a couple of months.

According to a senior police official, the suspect was in touch with a Bangladeshi telecom firm, which set up the illegal exchange in the city to convert international calls to local calls bypassing the telecom gateways. Tameezullah had purchased SIM cards of BSNL and other private telecom companies with unlimited plans and they used to convert the international calls to local ones. BSNL and other private companies had incurred losses to the tune of several crores due to this fraud, the official said.
