A 29-year-old truck driver, who got out of his vehicle to help two motorists injured in an accident on NICE Road, was run over by an unidentified vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday near Kengeri.
The deceased was identified as Raghavendra B S, a native of Bhoovalli near Channapatna. The injured motorists are Girish (23) and Abhishek T P (21), residents of Jayanagar.
Girish hails from Chamarajanagar, while Abhishek is from Maddur. Both have been admitted to BGS Hospital, where they are said to be out of danger.
According to the police, the two motorists had come for a ride from Jayanagar to Kengeri and were returning when the accident occurred.
Around 1.45 am, Girish, who was riding the two-wheeler, crashed into the rail guards along the NICE Road bridge running above Mysuru Road. The riders were grievously injured and were lying on the road when Raghavendra — driving a cement mixer tipper truck, and heading towards the Kanakapura toll booth from the Kengeri side — noticed them around 2 am.
He stopped his truck on the side of the road and alighted. When he was about 50 feet from his truck, an unidentified vehicle ran over him. His body was disfigured beyond recognition, the police said.
The Kengeri traffic police, along with NICE road ambulances and medical staff, rushed to the spot and shifted the motorists to the hospital.
A complaint has been lodged by the NICE Road staff, and the Kengeri police have taken up a case of hit and run and are investigating further. “We have collected details of the vehicles from the toll booths that had crossed the stretch between 2 am and the time when the first respondent reached the spot. We will identify the vehicle soon,” a senior police officer said.
