<p>Bengaluru: A rowdy named in 11 criminal cases was hacked to death by unidentified assailants near the Bangalore Football Stadium in the early hours of Sunday, police officers said. </p><p>Hyder Ali, 38, was returning home to Anepalya with a friend after attending a party at a bar on Residency Road when assailants attacked him.</p><p>Around 1.15 am, as their motorcycle reached near the stadium, about 250 metres from Garuda Mall, eight to 10 people stormed out of a waiting car. Unbeknownst to the two, they had also been tailed by another group of assailants on motorcycles as soon as they left the bar.</p><p>The assailants confronted Ali, while his friend, who rode the motorcycle, was hit on the head and forced to step away. Ali was then attacked with machetes and sharp weapons both in the front and the back, and left to bleed on the road. Some reports claimed that some of them carried weapons. Police intervened and managed to disperse the crowd and prevent the situation from getting out of hand.</p><p>"Prima facie, the murder appears to be the fallout of past rivalry," a senior police officer told DH. "However, the exact motive will be known only after the suspects are apprehended and a detailed investigation is conducted."</p><p>Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shekar H Tekkannavar has filed special teams under the Ashoknagar police inspector to investigate the case.</p><p>According to police, a history sheet was opened against Ali at the Ashoknagar police station in 2014. He faced 11 cases, including attempts to murder, causing hurt, and some cases involving drugs.</p><p>“He is not affiliated with any political party but his brother does social work," a senior police officer said.</p>
