The National Green Tribunal appointed Monitoring Committee headed by Justice Santosh Hegde recommended that the concerned authorities should identify and clear all encroachments in the Koramangala Valley Rajakaluve.

The Committee recommended that free flow of water in the stormwater drain should be ensured during the development of the 11.4 km long Koramangala Valley Rajakaluve from Chikka Lalbagh to Varthur lake.

The committee in its report submitted to the NGT about the development of the Rajakaluve also said that to minimise raw sewage entering into Rajakaluve, a sustainable measure should be implemented than plugging sewer outlets (entering drains) from residential blocks/colonies / industrial houses, with minimum social conflict.

The NGT had constituted the committee to take up complete rejuvenation of Bellandur lake after hearing different petitions related to lake rejuvenation. The Green Bench already laid down parameters for the restoration of the lake.

During an inspection in many locations especially the K R Market region blocking of silt traps due to dumping of solid waste noticed. Proper measure to be implemented to mitigate issues like flooding, the panel said.

The original width of the Rajakaluves should be maintained. Vacant land is available in the buffer zone of drains to be used for developing biodiversity parks of native tree species.

It is observed that in a certain area like the Baboo Bazar region, there is an accumulation of waste dumping. Special attention should be given to address this, said the panel.

Flooding due to heavy rain should be taken into account while the development of Rajakaluves and proper mitigation should be taken by authorities concerned, said the panel.
