Nominated BBMP councillor J William was attacked with lethal weapons by a gang of four outside the civic body’s office in eastern Bengaluru’s KG Halli on Tuesday night.

William (40) was rushed to a hospital. The police are on the lookout for the attackers.

Around 7.30 pm, as William came out of the BBMP office, the four assailants, who were waiting nearby wearing helmets, attacked and stabbed him, a senior police officer said.

Motive not clear

They fled the scene when they noticed passersby gathering around them. The motive for the attack is yet to be ascertained, an officer said.

The KG Halli police have taken up a case of attempted murder against the suspects and are reviewing the CCTV footage to ascertain their identity.

The police are also taking statements from William’s family and friends to find out if any tension or rivalry had led to the attack.
