People’s Planet launches one-million tree initiative in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: People’s Planet, a leading environmental organisation, has launched an ambitious initiative to plant one million trees and create urban forests across the city, aiming to transform Bengaluru into a model green space while honouring the legacy of eminent personalities.

The initiative was formally inaugurated at the Raj Bhavan by Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, in the presence of Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre and other prominent leaders. This large-scale afforestation drive seeks to enhance Bengaluru’s green cover and promote environmental sustainability.

Each tree planted under this initiative is geo-tagged, ensuring transparency, continuous monitoring, and long-term conservation.

As a tribute to Karnataka’s revered figures, the urban forests will be named in memory of Dr Rajkumar, Puneeth Rajkumar, SM Krishna, and other distinguished personalities who have left a lasting impact on society.

The plantation drive is being implemented under the guidance of expert panels, in collaboration with BBMP, the Bangalore Forest Association, and the Forest Department. The project aims to create a balanced and diverse ecosystem, setting a benchmark for other cities to follow.
