<p>The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), along with several NGOs, has installed baby feeding centres at five metro stations to provide safe, private spaces for nursing mothers, with the latest one set up at Baiyappanahalli.</p>.<p>The Baby Feeding Centre at Baiyappanahalli Metro Station was established by the Child Help Foundation in collaboration with the Sibdi Swavalamban Foundation. This initiative addresses the challenges women face in finding private spaces to feed their babies. Mothers reported that the centres offer a clean, well-maintained, and spacious environment where they can nurse their babies in privacy.</p>.<p>The feeding centres are now available at Baiyappanahalli, Majestic, Yeshwantpur, Kengeri, and Yelachenahalli Metro Stations. A senior BMRCL official informed <em>DH</em> that inquiries are being made to set up feeding centres at other metro stations.</p>.Fix Cauvery water problems without delay, urge Bengaluru residents.<p>“The maintenance of the centres is managed by the BMRCL. We have to look at the cost of running the centres before expanding it to other stations,” the official remarked.</p>.<p>“Currently, it is an 8x8 room with broad benches which can accommodate up to four mothers. Mothers can even sleep on these benches if they want to. In case the metro station doesn’t have a feeding centre, passengers can contact customer care at the station and a private space will be provided,” the official added. </p>.<p><strong>Welcome move</strong> </p>.<p>Malathi, a housewife, said, “During an emergency at the Baiyappanahalli Metro Station, I used the feeding centre and I found it very hygienic. I think it’s a great initiative that helps mothers in times of emergencies.” </p>.<p>Shifa, a saleswoman who commutes daily said, “I have a six-month-old daughter and I found the feeding centre very convenient. It is extremely private and I found it safe as well.</p>.<p>The Baby Feeding Centres at Majestic and Yeshwantpur Metro Stations, were among the first metro stations to offer such facilities and were established through collaboration between Child Help Foundation and Bridgenext. </p>.<p>Snehalata, a teacher, shared her experience of using the feeding centre at the Majestic Metro Station, “At first, I was hesitant to use the room as it was in public but after seeing how clean and private it was, I felt comfortable to breastfeed my child. The government should install more of these feeding centres in other metro stations to ease the difficulties mothers with new-born babies face.” </p>
