According to sources, some Congressmen have told the high command that Bhardwaj’s actions have sullied the image of the Governor as well as that of the party. They also blamed Bhardwaj for giving room to the BJP to gain mileage by playing the victim.
The actions of Bhardwaj that were criticised by his own partymen include his issuing a directive to the Assembly Speaker, recommending President’s rule and asking for a fresh trial of strength in a clear contradictory move.

Also, the press conference addressed by Bhardwaj, in which he made a series of charges like an Opposition leader, was unbecoming of a governor, the leaders reportedly told the Congress top brass. By all these, the governor overstepped his limits instead of being the watchdog of the Constitution, the Congressmen alleged.

Some of them even doubted if the actions of Bharadwaj —once family lawyer of the 10 Janpath–were for a comeback to active politics, the sources said.

The leaders were happy that the Congress core committee, which met on Monday, took serious note of the governor’s actions.

They demanded that the governor be removed shortly after the second trust vote on October 14.

The governor’s actions took away all the advantage that the Congress had in Karnataka after the Bellary padayatra and the ruling party’s byelection setbacks, the leaders alleged. Thanks to Bhardwaj, the BJP now had ample in its kitty to pin the Congress down, the high command was told.

There were also a few in the Congress who felt that Bhardwaj was trying to play an activist-governor by taking up scandals that haunted the ruling party such as in mining, land deals and university appointments, the sources added.
